Gainer, Nicholas. He lived in the 200 block of Houston street (if it's the same Nicholas listed in the NYC Directory for 1850) and he has a son named Austin (so did Jerome). Possibly another of John B. Gainer, Sr.'s sons. He got married in 1845 which means he would have been born between John B. Jr. and Anna Elizabeth Naturalizations in the Marine Court New York City 1827-1835 Abstracted by Kenneth Scott Collections of The NY Gen & Biog Soc, Vol XIII New York c1990, p. 40 Ga Goon, Jan Batiste, commonly called John B. Generation No. 3

14. Robert Isaac3 Gainer (Jerome2, Jean Baptiste1) was born September 24, 1855 in Town of New Lots, Long Island, NY18, and died August 29, 1941 in Freeport, Long Island, NY. He married Cora Elizabeth Beach November 1885, daughter of Micajah Beach and Elizabeth Clement. She was born October 25, 1856 in Glendale, MA, and died December 05, 1940 in Freeport, Long Island, NY.

Notes for Robert Isaac Gainer: Following is the obituary for Robert Isaac Gainer: Robert I. Gainer, who had been a resident of Freeport for more than 35 years, died at his home there, 1 Evans avenue, on Friday. Mr. Gainer, a descendant of a pioneer Long Island family, was born on a farm in the village of New Lots, 86 years ago, before that area became part of the present borough of Brooklyn. For a number of years he was associated with the Iron-Clad Manufacturing company of Williamsburgh, manufacturers of metal ware. The concern was operated by Mrs. Nellie Seaman. who won world wide fame under the name of Nellie Bly, American woman journalist who raced around the world in 72 days. Mr. Gainer was one of a family of seven brothers and two sisters, only one of who survive him. His brother, Jerome Gainer, who is 91, lives at Darien, Conn.. Also surviving are two sons, William G., of Freeport, and Robert A. retired police sergeant of the South Norwalk, Conn., department: also two daughters, Mrs. M. Gairy of Freeport, and Mrs. Eunice West of Atlanta, Ga Dad tells this story: He was a great farmer, had the best vegetables and while he didn't talk very much, he seemed to be a hard worker. While he did not own the property next door to their house, he would chase the kids off when they would steal apples from the trees on the property. He can't remember his grandfather ever speaking to him he must have at some time. My father's brother Al remembers that Robert Isaac would take cigarette butts off the street, take the tobacco that was left from them and roll another cigarette from them. These things might have started after his wife Cora invested $10,000 in a silk mill scam and lost most if not all of their retirement funds.

Children of Robert Gainer and Cora Beach are:
25 i. Addie Alexander4 Gainer, born 1886 in Lee, MA; died 1907. She married Percival Farwell.

29 v. Hazel Mildred Gainer, born October 21, 1892 in Brooklyn, NY; died May 02, 1962 in Long Island, NY. She married (1) General McLellon Scott. She married (2) Thomas M Gairey March 1928.
+ 30 vi. Eunice Gertrude Gainer, born June 15, 1895 in Brooklyn, NY; died May 24, 1979 in West Palm Beach, FL.

Notes for Ida Elisabeth Gainer: There is a marriage in the New York City, Methodist Marriages 1785-1893 on p 239 vol 1 by Wm Scott Fisher, Picton Press of a Ann Eliza Gainer to Joseph Hindley dated 31 Aug 1856 if this was really 1866 it could be the marriage of Joseph Hindley and Ida Elizabeth Gainer.

Notes for Katalin Czupecz: Uncle Al says Jasd (he as a photo of the village sign) is approximately 50-60 miles west of Budapest. He found 2 children who knew where it was as took him through a Russian firing range filled with land mines to the village. They had a volkswagon and tried to follow the tank tracks to avoid hitting a land mine. The village has a railroad going through the town and it is believed that there was where she took the train that went straight to Trieste to board the steamer Cassell. However the steamer Cassell is listed as going out of Bremen, Germany - possibly Bremen was it's registry. There is also what Uncle Al & Aunt Grace described as a very dirty river running near the village. Katie came to live with Mamie Prince who lived on Staten Island. Mamie was a cousin. He owned the Park Taxi located at the foot of Clematis Street (it operated only with Cadillacs). He was associated with the Railway Express for many years and a fireman with the Town of Palm Beach at the same time.
